SISKIND, Janet
  • Tropical forest hunters and the economy of sex. In Daniel R. Gross (ed.), Peoples and cultures of native South America. An anthropological reader. Garden City, Doubleday/The Natural History Press, 1973, pp. 226-240.

Este é um sugestivo esforço de associar comportamentos sexuais e padrões de adaptação ecológica. A partir de observações próprias entre os Xaranaua do alto Purus e da consideração de dados provenientes de outras tribos de Floresta Tropical, particularmente os Yanomámi, a autora propõe: "If my hypothesis is correct, all other things being equal, in areas of abundant game in relation to population, sex mores would be more relaxed, and the distribution of women would be relatively equal; in areas of sparser game in relationship to population density, sex mores would tend toward the puritanical, and the distribution of women would be unequal" (p. 238).
